Eligibility

All employees are eligible to participate, regardless of their benefits-eligible status. The plan document currently does not allow for student worker participation.

Plan Information

Detailed information regarding tax-deferred annuities is available on the IRS website. Employees are responsible for selecting the provider(s), establishing a contract with the provider(s), and completing and submitting a Salary Reduction Agreement Form - AFTER TAX or a Salary Reduction Agreement Form - PRE TAX to HRM.

Plan Activation

You may begin a 403(b) plan at any time by following these steps:

  1. Contact the provider(s) to find the plan that best fits your retirement income strategies. You may select multiple providers; however, the maximum contribution per year remains the same.
  2. Once you have selected the provider(s) in which you wish to participate, establish a contract with the provider(s).
  3. In order for MSU to withhold money from your paycheck for your 403(b) contribution, complete a Salary Reduction Agreement Form - AFTER TAX or a Salary Reduction Agreement Form - PRE TAX, which both you and your provider sign.
