Eligibility

All employees are eligible to participate, regardless of their benefits-eligible status. The plan document currently does not allow for student worker participation.

Plan Information

Detailed information regarding the 403(b) plan is available on the IRS website. Employees are responsible for selecting the provider(s), establishing a contract with the provider(s), and completing and submitting a Salary Reduction Agreement Form to HRM.

Plan Activation

You may begin a 403(b) plan at any time by following these steps:

  1. Contact the provider(s) to find the plan that best fits your retirement income strategies. You may select multiple providers; however, the maximum contribution per year remains the same.
  2. Once you have selected the provider(s) in which you wish to participate, establish a contract with the provider(s).
  3. In order for MSU to withhold money from your paycheck for your 403(b) contribution, complete a Salary Reduction Agreement Form, which both you and your provider sign.
