FMLA is unpaid leave. Employees may remain in paid status if they use accrued major medical leave as certified by a medical provider. Accrued personal leave or compensatory time could also be used to remain in paid status.

Family and medical leave of up to twelve (12) weeks during the fiscal year will be granted upon proper request:

  • following childbirth or placement of a child through adoption or foster care;

  • due to the serious health condition of a child, spouse, or parent; or,

  • in the case of the employee's own serious health condition as certified by a physician.

Employees taking leave are guaranteed the right to return to their previous or an equivalent position with no loss of benefits at the end of the leave.
