Checking References
When hiring, it is important to request and obtain records that help determine the accuracy of the application and assist in making the employment decision. The information obtained through reference checking is confidential and should be used for business purposes only. When checking references, try to determine:
Dates of previous employment
Job titles
Reason for leaving
Eligibility for rehire
Reason, if ineligible for rehire
Growth in skills on the job
Rating of work quality
Rating of work quantity
Degree of initiative
Ability to work cooperatively
Regularity of attendance
On-time arrival
Compare the information you receive with the information on the application.
