The Hiring Tool Kits outline procedures and provide resources for hiring departments.

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

The employment status of University employees is normally defined in one of the following categories:

 

Regular Full-Time

Employees who are regularly scheduled to work one-half time or more (50% time or greater) and whose positions are expected to be active for more than four and one-half months.

Regular Part-Time

Employees who are regularly scheduled for less than one-half time (49% time or less) and whose positions are expected to be active for more than four and one-half months.

Time-Limited

Employees who are regularly scheduled to work full-time or part-time and whose positions are expected to be active for a specified period of time, and more than four and one-half months.

Temporary

Employees who are regularly scheduled to work full-time or part-time and whose positions are expected to be active for a period up to, but less than, four and one-half months.

Visiting Faculty

Visiting appointments are a means of accommodating a particular need for instruction, research, or professional endeavors for four and one-half months or more and not expected to exceed one year.

Post Doctoral  
Intermittent

"Intermittent" means that the employee is appointed to a position that has sporadic work periods, such as parking attendant. Intermittent employees cannot work more than 1040 hours during the fiscal year.

Graduate Assistant  
Student Worker  
Rehired Retiree Individuals who have retired from the University (or other State of Mississippi service) may be re-employed in accordance with the Public Employees' Retirement System of Mississippi Regulation 34, Reemployment After Retirement.

Definitions and procedures for each category are included in these Hiring Tool Kits. Employees may be hired on a seasonal basis or an emergency basis to meet unexpected needs. These employees may be hired in any of the categories listed above.
