Coverage:Plans offered are Premium Pre-Tax and Flexible Spending Accounts, Careflex and Mediflex. If you participate in the Premium Pre-Tax or Flexible Spending Account Plans, you may not change the amount of your monthly deductions during the plan year (January through December), unless you experience a family status change and make your change within 60 days of your qualifying event.Participation in the Flexible Spending Account Plans require all reimbursements to be made via direct deposit.

Premium Pre-Tax

The Premium Pre-Tax plan allows employees to pay for certain benefit deductions with pre-tax dollars rather than after-tax dollars. Insurance premiums available for pre-tax are:

  • State and School Employees' Health Insurance Plan
  • Aflac Cancer and Intensive Care Plans
  • Dental Plan
  • State and School Employees' Life Insurance Plan
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plan
  • Vision Plan
  • UNUM Long Term Disability (Not Recommended)
  • American Fidelity Long Term Disability (Not Recommended)


The Careflex plan (Dependent Day Care) allows employees to set aside up to $5,000 per calendar year for dependent day care expenses to be paid for with pre-tax dollars.


The Mediflex plan for 2013 (Unreimbursed Medical Expenses) allows employees to set aside up to $2,500 per calendar year for unreimbursed qualifying medical expenses to be paid for with pre-tax dollars, which has been reduced from $10,000 per calendar year allowed in 2012. Mediflex participants also have the option to sign up for a debit card to be used for prescription drug purchases. The cost of the debit card is $.55 semi-monthly and is paid by the employee.
